Excursions to Granada from Marbella
To quote the guitarist Andres Segovia (1893 – 1987) Granada is a “place of
dreams, where the Lord put the seed of music in my soul”.
Nothing can
prepare you for the delights of the Alhambra Palace which is situated at the top
of a hill with views over the city, backed by the Sierra Nevada mountain range.
It was created to be a paradise on Earth and with it’s magical use of space,
light and running water features and fountains it certainly feels like it.
The word Alhambra stems from Arabic meaning “red castle” as from the outside it
is a plain looking fortress made of red brick. The building was a fortress from
the 9th Century until the 13th Century when it was turned into a duel fortress
and palace.

One of the best times of the year to see Granada is during May when local people
celebrate the festival of the flower crosses, with each village creating a
large, flower adorned cross to stand at the entrance of the villages and towns.
We would recommend a full day for a trip to Granada as it is approximately a 2
hour drive from your hotel based on the Costa del Sol.
In the height of
summer it can reach temperatures of over 45 Centigrade so spring and autumn are
better for sight seeing visits.
