Excursions to Cordoba From Marbella

Cordoba city has a fascinating history and was the capital of Al-Andalusia (the Muslim/Moors ruled part of medieval Spain) when it was at it’s peak.

It’s former mosque (mezquita) is one of the most magnificent Islamic buildings in the world and was originally built as a fortress. It was later used by the Christians as a cathedral.

The heart of Cordoba is the old Jewish quarter which is juxtaposed with the Mezquita. A walk around this area gives the sensation that little has changed since the 10th Century when this was one of the greatest cities of the Western world.

Wrought ironwork decorates narrow, cobbled streets where silversmiths create fine jewelery in their workshops.

One of the best times of the year to see Cordoba is during May when local people open up their private, flower filled patios and balconies to the public.

We would recommend a full day for a trip to Cordoba as it is approximately a 2 hour drive from your hotel based on the Costa del Sol.

In the height of summer it can reach temperatures of over 45 Centigrade so spring and autumn are better for sight seeing visits.
